No Pits, Just Pits was amazing. I loved every minute that my work was hanging. That was because you guys were so absolutely kind to me and came out or spent time away from the Big Sound showcase to check out the work.
In case you missed it, I held my first exhibition over the entirety of Big Sound 2017. I called it No Pits, Just Pits, and showcased it at Church (inside Crowbar) officially as part of Big Sound. Big Sound gave me full creative control.
What happened
I really hoped that people would come. Then the Courier Mail called it one of the top 5 things out of the 330 things that were happening.
No Pits, Just Pits (Matt Walter photography exhibition): Brunswick St venue Crowbar is an official Bigsound venue again this year, and it is ramping up its involvement, with newly opened upstairs art space Church (adjacent to Crowbar Black) featuring an exhibition by Crowbar’s resident photographer Matt Walter (nee Warrell). The title refers to the fact that the photos featured were taken at smaller venues where there are no “photo pits” and snappers have to get among the action in the mosh pit to secure a decent shot.
Then the exhibition was extended past Big Sound due to popular demand:
Due to popular demand we are extending No Pits, Just Pits photo exhibition by @mattwalterphoto till Wednesday 13th October. The exhibition will be closed tonight but will open from 5pm till 10pm on Wednesday for last minute viewing and print purchases. ? @mattwalterphoto
Absolutely blew me away.
Buy prints
There’s a small range of prints leftover from the exhibition, so I’ve put them up on my print store. There’s also a couple of the original artwork straight off the wall that can go to a new home.
Thank you
Big thank you to everyone, including Megsy for tirelessly working her ass off to take your orders and make sure it was looking beautiful on the walls, Trad and Tyla for always pushing me to finally do a photography exhibition, the team at Crowbar Brisbane for slanging the drinks, all the artists I exhibited work of for trusting me to take photos of them, Tom Lanyon for the amazing poster art, Violent Soho + Clowns + Dune Rats + High Tension for shout outs on their Instagram, the team at Big Sound for asking me to do the exhibition as part of the program, and anyone that bought a print! Sorry if I forgot anyone, it was the craziest time and a total blur. But I appreciate everything.
