It was my first time seeing Apes band play and their tour with Manchester Orchestra was a perfect opportunity.
At first I was a little curious why they were playing the second support slot rather than the first, being a local band, and Kevin Devine being half of Bad Books with members of Manchester Orchestra. After Apes kicked off, it made total sense to me because of their sound. Kevin Devine is very mellow and a great way to start the night with softer sounds, whereas Apes are a full band that is much heavier. The heavier sound really warms the crowd up to a much harder Manchester Orchestra than we’ve seen in previous tours.
Kevin Devine ruled, though. Just the sequence made total sense. Check out my photos of the night before with Kevin Devine at Crowbar, Brisbane.
Apes have a new fan in me!
